Serious shortage of natural rubber in India
Cochin, India: In the face of a serious shortage of the domestic natural rubber market, Indian tire manufacturers have decided to import more raw rubber in the coming months in order to tide over the difficulties. According to industry sources, the tire companies intend to import 35,000 tons of rubber in September this year, and from April to August this year, a total of 26,500 tons was imported. It is said that one of the main causes of shortage of rubber in India at present is the early arrival of the rainy season in the southwestern Kerala, which has delayed the tapping season of gum trees. Kerala’s natural rubber production accounts for over 90% of India’s total production. It is understood that last year, India's exports increased by 37% to 75,900 tons, which led to a sharp drop in stocks. India's rubber production this year was originally planned to increase by 6.1% from the same period of last year, but from the current situation, it may not be higher than this level.
