Japanese Forklift Sales Fall for 8 Months

According to the statistics released by the Japan Association of Industrial Vehicles, the sales volume (domestic sales and exports) of Japanese forklifts in April was 6,834, a decrease of 5.9% over the same period of last year, and has been lower than the same period of last year for eight consecutive months. This is mainly due to the reduction of investment in factories and other equipment and the sluggish domestic demand.
In April, the sales of domestic forklifts reached 4,568 units, a year-on-year decrease of 9.8%, of which engine vehicles forklifts were 2,467 units, down 9% year-on-year; and battery-powered forklifts were 2,101 units, down 1.8%, all in a downturn. On the other hand, exports reached 2,266 units, the first increase in the past six months, of which engine-type forklifts were 1,523, an increase of 1.5% year-on-year; and battery-powered forklifts were 743, an increase of 6.6% year-on-year.
