What does a spark plug do?

A spark plug, as the name implies, is a device that can produce an electric spark and ignite a flammable gas mixture. It has a thread at the bottom that can be mounted on the corresponding spark plug hole and looks like a “plug” that plugs this hole.

Why can it produce sparks?

Because there is a small gap between the center electrode and the side electrode, the two electrodes will have a high voltage and an arc will be generated. This is what we call spark. The normal spark plug gap should be 0.9 - 1.1mm.

In general, after replacing the spark plug, the fuel consumption will show a decrease. If the phenomenon of rising fuel consumption does not drop, there should be several reasons.

One, the model does not match

There are various types of spark plugs, and various engines adapt to different types of spark plugs. To see the original model, replace the original model.

If the spark plug model is incorrect, there will be problems such as incorrect clearance, improper heating value, etc., resulting in increased fuel consumption.

When changing the spark plug, you can first measure the spark plug gap, generally between 0.7mm-1.1mm.

You can also adjust it yourself: you can first take the median, adjust to 0.9mm, try not to adjust to the maximum 1.1mm, because people will produce errors, the result may be greater than 1.1mm, this has an impact on the spark plug flashover, also There will be a broken fire when the engine is running at high speed, and it will affect the power of the engine. If the spark plug gap is too large, the spark energy will be reduced. If the gap is too small, it may lead to poor development of the flame nucleus, which will lead to poor combustion of the mixture.

Do not tap the electrode while adjusting spark plug clearance, and do not move the center electrode. After adjustment, make sure that the center electrode and the side electrode are in a line.

Second, no tightening

The thread on the bottom of the plug is used for connection. There are provisions for the rotation of a few laps. That is to say, the specified torque is different for the engine and the car. If it is not loosened, over tightening will damage the thread, and it will also cause the spark plug to be in the wrong position. As a result, there are short-lived fires, delayed fires, and weak sparks, so that the mixture cannot be ignited at the prescribed time and intensity.

If it is too loose, tightening according to the specified torque will cause air leakage. As the high-temperature and high-pressure gases continuously leak out, the pressure in the tank is getting smaller and smaller. At this time, the engine will not only increase fuel consumption, but will also be powerless, unstable at idle, easily turn off at high speeds, and may not start.

If the model is correct and the tightening is up to standard, then there are some other problems:

Third, excessive oil added

When changing spark plugs, many owners will be at this time, the vehicle's oil has also changed. At this time, if the engine oil is increased for various reasons, it will also cause the vehicle fuel consumption to increase.

If the oil is increased, the crankshaft will be submerged and the resistance will increase accordingly. At this time, the engine has to increase fuel consumption accordingly in order to obtain more power. This situation has nothing to do with spark plugs.
