What are the working modes of POE?
Sometimes, we need to use POE switches, such as cameras, ceiling APs, panel APs, and other network devices that are not convenient to take power, and most of them are non-managed POE switches. There is some relevant knowledge in use to understand, now let's take a look!
Non-network management POE switches are generally plug-and-play and do not need to be configured. The non-network management POE switches with mode switch also support standard switching, video monitoring, and VLAN isolation.
In the video surveillance and VLAN isolation, the concept of the uplink port is introduced. The uplink port refers to the port connected to the aggregation or core network. Generally, the interface rate is higher and the POE function is not supported.
The port labeled "Uplink" is the uplink port, generally on the far right side of the switch, 1 to 2 (some are 4 ports of photoelectric multiplexing, in fact, only 2 ports can be used at the same time, such as Tianbo's TBC- PS5424FE-2GFE).

Standard switch mode
When dialing to the standard switching mode, it becomes a normal unmanaged switch. All ports can communicate with each other, and the POE port can be powered normally. Suitable for ordinary data transmission environments.
Video surveillance mode
The video surveillance mode is designed for the monitoring application. When the switch is connected to multiple network cameras, it is recommended to enable this mode and connect the uplink ports to the uplink devices, which can effectively reduce the situation of jams and mosaics in the monitoring network.
In this mode, there is no communication between the PEE ports of the switch. For a switch with only one row of ports, the POE port can only communicate with the uplink port. For a switch with two ports, the POE port on the front end can communicate with the uplink port with a small port number. The POE port on the back end can only communicate with the uplink port with a large port number. There is no communication between the two uplink ports.
VLAN isolation mode
When this mode is changed, each POE port cannot communicate with each other and can only communicate with the uplink port. If there are multiple uplink ports, the uplink ports can communicate with each other. It is applicable to the usage scenarios of connecting wireless APs, which can effectively suppress network storms and improve wireless network performance.
Note: Multiple uplink ports cannot be connected to the same switch or the same server. The mode takes effect immediately after the mode switch, without restarting the switch.
