US utility company pilots smart gas detectors

[ China Instrument Network Instrument Development ] Recently, the US utility company Con Edison began installing smart gas detectors in Westchester County to reduce non-income gas and gas leaks.

Intelligent gas detectors detect gas leaks as early as possible and respond more quickly to emergency response. The detector communicates directly with Con Edison's Gas Emergency Response Center. The system alerts when it detects natural gas in the air and sends a message to the company informing the local fire department to respond quickly. The alarm will continue to sound until the company shuts down the device. Alerts include notifying building occupants to evacuate and dial 911.

The smart gas detector will be installed where the gas pipeline enters the building or near the gas meter. Marc Huestis, senior vice president of gas operations at Con Edison, said: "Detectors can save lives by using smart technology to directly communicate with our customers and our emergency department.
