NXP Introduces Next-Generation Automotive Position Sensor KMA210

NXP Semiconductors NXP Semiconductors N. V. Recently announced the launch of a new generation of automotive position sensors KMA210. The KMA210 integrates NXP's latest magnetoresistive sensor chip and a unique signal conditioning ASIC circuit based on NXP's advanced silicon-on-insulator (SOI) ABCD9 process. The KMA210 is the first member of the new magnetic sensor family and is a complete system-in-package solution that requires no external components. The KMA210 is specifically designed to improve the overall performance and robustness of automotive applications.

From electronic steering and active suspension systems to automotive headlight adjustments, the KMA210 is suitable for all automotive applications where precise mechanical angle measurement is required. Due to its high accuracy and robustness, it is particularly suitable for powertrain applications under the hood, throttle control and air control valve measurements. In addition, this sensor is extremely stable in the high temperature range (up to 160°C) and is ideal for exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) applications that are the core of exhaust emissions control.

NXP magnetoresistive position sensors improve the safety, environmental friendliness and comfort of the driving process. The KMA210 sensor helps to regulate untreated engine exhaust emissions, thus providing support for the global mission of reducing vehicle carbon dioxide emissions. For example, in a diesel engine, diesel particulate filter regeneration can be promoted by throttling the intake air required to reduce particulate emissions. In the on-line control engine, with NXP's magnetoresistive position sensor, the ETC actuator can assume the role of load control and idle speed control to achieve precise control of intake air, and for cruise control or electronic stability program (ESP) Features provide convenience.

The sensor-integrated signal conditioning ASIC circuit is built using NXP's proprietary 140nm CMOS automotive grade silicon-on-insulator ABCD9 technology. Electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) is significantly improved compared to the integrated ASIC's pre-sensor products. The device integrates two embedded capacitors in the same package, eliminating the need for printed circuit boards and external filters, reducing system cost. The KMA210 sensor complies with the new HMM (human body metal model) specification, which not only has excellent robustness but also has excellent electrostatic discharge (ESD) performance. At the same time, the sensor is completely temperature compensated and can be used right out of the box.

Drue Freeman, Vice President of Global Sales and Marketing at NXP Semiconductors Automotive Electronics Division, said: "Based on its leading product and professional application knowledge, NXP continues to introduce innovative automotive technology platforms to enhance the environmental protection and safety of the driving process. And comfort, we worked closely with major customers in the early design stage, and our customers provided us valuable advice and helped us establish the necessary conditions to meet the high EMC and ESD performance requirements of the automotive industry. Finally, based on NXP's latest ABCD9 The process, combined with our extensive experience in the high-performance mixed-signal field, has created a device that leads the industry in development and has excellent robustness."
