Lights for Audi

Many car companies have performed well in headlight design. Why can only Audi be called a "light factory"?

For most car brands, the headlight is just a part of the car, and its meaning is not much different from other parts, but Audi is different, it has a unique view on the design of the car headlight.

In the 1990s, like most car brands, Audi lights used halogen light sources as the main lighting source for Audi headlights. However, with the improvement of people's demand for driving safety and the strengthening of environmental protection awareness, the halogen lights brightness and life can no longer meet their requirements, so xenon headlights with higher brightness, longer life and more energy saving have been invented.

In 1994, Audi equipped the first-generation Audi A8 headlights with xenon for the first time. Compared with halogen headlights, the superiority of xenon headlights is obvious. Audi set off a wave of transition to Audi xenon headlights, which also became the first step in Audi's transition to a "light factory".

At the North American International Auto Show held in 2003, Audi brought the Pikes Peak quattro concept car (the predecessor of the Audi Q7). One of the most prominent designs was to change the round fog lights to narrow strips and integrate them With the addition of LED light sources, this is the earliest prototype of daytime running lights.

We all know that the European Union promulgated a bill in 2011, requiring cars and small cars to be equipped with daytime running lights. Even in the daytime, drivers must turn on the lights to reduce the probability of traffic accidents.

And long before the promulgation of this bill, Audi had tried in the field of daytime running lights, which shows that its emphasis on headlights is at the forefront of major automakers.

Since then, Audi has officially mass-produced LED daytime running lights and equipped them on the W12 model of the A8, which also makes it the world's first model equipped with daytime running lights.

In 2005, Audi shifted its focus to the taillights and tried to equip the A6 Avant with LED taillights. Compared with traditional taillights, Audi LED taillights are better in terms of light source intensity, and can also have extremely high penetration in extreme weather. Some people even joked a little, "No matter how far away or how poor the line of sight is, as long as there is a little light in front, don`t think about it, it must be an Audi car."

Since then, Audi has been fascinated by "lights", and has gone further and further on the road of headlight R&D and design, such as Audi LED headlights, Audi dynamic flow turn signals, Audi laser headlights, Audi matrix headlights, and now Audi LED matrix laser headlights all reflect Audi's obsession and attainments in the field of lighting.
