Xinhua News Agency, Beijing, December 21, According to the authoritative department, it is expected that by the end of this year, the number of civilian vehicles in China will exceed 30 million for the first time, a net increase of more than 14 million vehicles in 2000 from the end of the “Ninth Five-Year Plan†period.
According to the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, this year China's domestic automobile production and sales will reach 5.6 million.
According to customs statistics, China imported 145,000 vehicles in the first 11 months of this year and is expected to import nearly 160,000 vehicles throughout the year. Subtracting cars that were scrapped this year, it is expected that the number of civilian vehicles in China will increase by more than 3 million in 2005, and exceed 30 million for the first time.
During the “10th Five-Year Plan†period, major changes have taken place in the domestic automobile structure, and the increase in passenger cars far exceeds the growth rate of trucks. In passenger cars, the increase in small and minibuses is even more pronounced. In 2000, the proportion of passenger cars in China was 53%, which increased to 64% in 2004 and is expected to increase further in 2005.
Although the number of cars owned by Chinese automakers has nearly doubled during the "Tenth Five-Year Plan" period, the number of cars owned by a thousand people is about 24, but it is far below the average level of 120 cars per thousand people in the world. Some analysts believe that China has just entered the threshold of the automobile society, and the huge demand for automobiles will continue for 20 to 30 years.
