Analysis of Import and Export Data of U.S. Metal Processing Machine Tools in February

The American Manufacturing Technology Association (AMT) announced the latest statistics on the US import and export trade of metalworking machines in February 2011. In February 2011, the U.S. export value of metal processing machine tools was US$235 million, a decrease of 3.2% from the previous period and an increase of 50.9% year-on-year. Imports were US$244 million, a decrease of 6.6% from the previous quarter and a year-on-year increase of 64.3%.

From January to February of 2011, the United States exported 478 million U.S. dollars worth of metal processing machine tools, an increase of 69.7% from the 282 million U.S. dollars in the same period of 2010, and imported metal processing machine tools of 505 million U.S. dollars, an increase of 63.1% over the 310 million U.S. dollars in the same period of 2010.

US machine tool exports fell by 3.2% in February

From the product type, in February, the United States exported 149 million US dollars of metal cutting machine tools, a decrease of 5.4% from the previous month; the export of metal forming machines was 85,800,000 US dollars, a slight increase of 0.7% from the previous quarter.

From the machine tool export market, in February, China was still the largest export market for metal processing machines in the United States, and its export volume increased by 46.3% to US$45.3 million. The second largest export market was Mexico, with exports at $26.9 million, a decrease of 11.1% from the previous quarter. The remaining top five markets are: Canada (17.1 million US dollars), the United Kingdom (15 million US dollars) and India (10 million US dollars).

US imports of metal processing machine tools increased by 64.3% year-on-year

In February, US imports and exports of metal processing machines reached US$244 million, a decrease of 6.6% from the previous quarter and a year-on-year increase of 64.3%. Among them, the import of CNC machine tools in February was US$179 million, which was basically the same as last month.

From the product type, in February, the United States imported metal cutting machine tools for 201 million US dollars, a decrease of 2.4% from the previous month; imports of metal forming machines reached 42.8 million US dollars, a decrease of 22.3% compared with the previous period.

From the perspective of machine tool import sources, Japan and Germany are still the most important machine tool import source regions in the United States. In February, the United States imported machine tools from Japan by 105 million U.S. dollars, an increase of 20.8% from the previous month; imported machine tools from Germany were 38.3 million U.S. dollars, an increase of 29% from the previous month. . The remaining top five sources of imports are: China Taiwan (US$20 million), South Korea (US$15.2 million), and Switzerland (US$12.9 million).
