Voith Group and Franka Emeka establish strategic partnership

Heidenheim/Munich: The Voith Group has established a strategic partnership with Franka Amica, a robotics company based in Munich, Germany.

As part of its strategic partnership, Voith and Franka Amica established a joint venture called Voith Robotics. The new joint venture, headquartered in Munich, will become a global system supplier for robot-assisted automation systems in the digital era of the future. Voith Robotics not only provides learning-capable lightweight robots manufactured by Franca Emeka for global customers in different industries and markets, but also provides software solutions, applications, services and process consulting.

Another part of the strategic partnership is Voith’s direct equity participation in Franka Emika, which highlights the long-term strategic direction of the two companies. Voith Robotics is run by Voith. The new general manager is Martin Scherrer, a former member of Voith Paper.

In 2017, the team of Francka Emeka developed the first highly-sensitive and self-learning lightweight robot "Panda", which was obtained by the German Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier.
