Siemens acquires an American meter data management company

Reading: German Siemens acquires eMeter, a meter data management company in San Mateo, California, USA. Siemens and eMeter have established strategic partnerships since 2008. In fiscal year 2011, the total revenue of Siemens' environmental-related business portfolio was close to 30 billion euros, which also made Siemens one of the world's largest suppliers of environmental technology.

eMeter is a smart meter software platform service provider. It allows power companies to accurately calculate the amount of electricity used by each user through their systems. Users can log on to the power company's website to learn about their own power usage patterns and achieve energy savings.

Siemens and eMeter have established strategic partnerships since 2008. In fiscal year 2011, the total revenue of Siemens' environmental-related business portfolio was close to 30 billion euros, which also made Siemens one of the world's largest suppliers of environmental technology.

Siemens stated that eMeter's EnergyIP meter data management software will become an integral part of its smart grid business portfolio.

We think eMeter may have been able to go public. But just as we discussed Silver Spring Network's listing, the recent market turmoil and worries of people in the regional economic recession represented by Europe have inhibited everyone's expectations for listing. At the same time, eMeter's venture capitalists have not enough patience to withdraw. Gary Bloom, the current CEO of eMeter, was specifically recruited for planning the sale or listing of the company. Now he has successfully completed this task.

What does this acquisition event mean for other companies in the field? Many observers had earlier predicted that the meter data management business as a separate category would disappear. This is a very real point of view. As it says, all major metrology companies will build or purchase basic meter data management systems. If this prediction is true, then what should be the next ecological analysis? Landis Gyr (now owned by Toshiba Corporation) currently has a minority stake.

So what impact does this have on utility companies? The answer to this question is not yet clear. But maybe you will find a lot of mix-up phenomenon - for example, Itron meter company and Siemens (formerly eMeter company) meter data management system and Silver Spring network company. Or, the utility company will start purchasing the meter data management system as part of the metering business package.
