Internet of Things rise, new technologies mushroomed

The rise of the Internet of Things (IoT) has prompted many businesses to seek cooperation / alliances to launch better networking technologies. Emerging technologies such as LoRa, Weightless and SIGFOX have mushroomed to gain a place in the Internet of Things.

Jamie Moss, principal analyst at Ovum's IoT, a market research firm, said the appliance is quite extensive and that the concept of IoT is not a battlefield for networking technology, but rather allows every application to find the right networking technology. For example, although the cost of LTE is relatively expensive and the power consumption is relatively high in various networking technologies, its speed can be higher or lower, which not only meets the high-speed networking requirements of a general portable device, but also provides Machine to Machine (M2M) low speed but long distance requirements in networking.

On the other hand, LoRa and SIGFOX themselves have lower transmission speeds, a wide range of network coverage and lower power consumption than LTE, but because both use unlicensed spectrum, companies that want to use both technologies may have Connection status is not stable; if the stability of the network connection more stringent requirements, such as industrial Internet of Things machine can not be temporarily disconnected, the use of these two technologies will have the reliability of doubt.

It is worth noting that the NarrowBand IoT (NB-IoT) derived from LTE technology will become a new face in IoT networking technology. Moss pointed out that NB-IoT has the advantages of LoRa and SIGFOX and operates on licensed spectrum with lower power consumption than LTE. NB-IoT will be a good choice if your business requires high network stability. However, NB-IoT in June after the official release, still have to wait a year and a half before formal business.

Moss further said that when the NB-IOT business, the technology in the Internet of Things market and LTE technology will co-exist. For IoT devices, there is no best technology, only the right technology. Together with LoRa and SIGFOX for unlicensed spectrum, both technologies are available to anyone, so when the NB-IOT is officially operational, there are still some small private companies using LoRa and SIGFOX to establish their own private domain. IoT will not only be a technology to survive, but to allow enterprises to have more networking options.
