Cobham SATCOM provides protection for search and rescue exercises

SAILOR VSAT technology once again proved its efficiency and safety in a large-scale search and rescue exercise held in Cyprus.

Cobham SATCOM provided the SAILOR 900 VSAT system for communication support for the Larnaca Joint Rescue Coordination Center in Cyprus and the “NSMESIS 2015” large multinational search and rescue exercise. The exercise was attended by Cyprus, Israel, Greece and the United States.

The NEMESIS 2015 search and rescue exercise is a simulation planning, compilation and implementation of multinational joint search and rescue exercises designed to effectively search and rescue missions and other humanitarian activities in the region. The exercise included a number of air and sea equipment: 9 warships, 1 oil platform, 1 cruise ship, several anti-pollution vessels, 2 port and marine police vessels, 4 helicopters and 2 aircraft. The exercise is divided into four parts, simulating the serious accidents that occur suddenly on the high seas in an area where oil and gas rigs (ships and shipyards) are operating with their support vessels.

To better serve this exercise, Cobham SATCOM co-agent Tototheo installed the SAILOR 900 VSAT antenna system on the supply vessel. This greatly facilitates the transfer of high-quality drill videos by official photographers to the coordinators and related personnel of the search and rescue coordination center.
