Chinese Academy of Sciences Xing Wu Researches Salinity Desert and Salt Alkali Agriculture Planted Patent

The Institute of Oceanology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences released a message on March 24th that a major breakthrough was made in the study of saline-alkaline desertification and saline-alkali agriculture completed by Xingwu researchers.

Through a long-term study, Xingwu has overcome the adverse effects of strong winds and droughts on the planting of Saussurea and other halophytes. It can plant Saussurea and other halophytes on large scale in drought-prone and high saline-alkaline environments to establish vegetation and eliminate Bare saline-alkaline desertification and its salinization and the spread of saline-alkaline dust storms, the improvement and optimization of the ecological environment and the establishment of a highly efficient saline-alkali agricultural industry. This achievement has been authorized by the invention patent of the State Intellectual Property Office ("a method for planting salt-tolerant plants in arid and windy desert environments").

There are more than 1.4 billion mu of saline-alkali land in China in the northeast, northwest, north and central and coastal areas. Due to scarcity of dry and scarce rains, excessive salt and alkali contents in soil and groundwater led to the lack of vegetation and even lack of grass. Under the influence of drought and strong winds, the salt-alkali dust in these desert saline-alkali environments fluttered with the wind, resulting in salt and alkali dust storms. As a result of catastrophic disasters, water and soil erosion, salinization spread, and farmland lose production due to reduced salinization or harvest due to salinization. Crop trees die and become secondary deserts. Saline-alkali dust also causes pollution of water sources, rivers, lakes and the atmosphere, causing various diseases and endangering the health of people and livestock.

The invention is one of the technical achievements of the key direction of the Knowledge Innovation Project of the Chinese Academy of Sciences during the “Eleventh Five-Year Plan”, the “Study and Demonstration of Key High-Efficiency Saline Soil Technology” and the “Sao Peng High-Efficiency Cultivation Technology Research and Development” project of the Science and Technology Support Program of the Ministry of Science and Technology. The long-term sustained support of the Agricultural Project Office of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. The invention eliminates and controls saline-alkali deserts and saline-alkaline dust storms by establishing vegetation and establishes a saline-alkali agricultural industry. It overcomes the arable and freshwater resources by changing the ecological environment of urban and rural areas in the northwest, northeast, north, and central China as well as coastal saline-alkali areas and surrounding areas. Inadequacies, improving the country's food and energy supply capacity, etc. have far-reaching strategic significance.
