Analysis on Sales of Self-owned Brand Passenger Cars from January to August in 2010

In January-August 2010, a total of 2,335,500 units of narrow-sense passenger vehicles (namely, the sum of cars, SUVs, and MPVs, which are referred to below as sales volume) were cumulatively sold by car companies of China's independent brands, which recorded a year-on-year increase. 51.98%, which is 10% higher than the industry average growth rate (41.8%).

Four major group rankings

In January-August, the top 10 self-owned brand car companies were Chery Automobile, BYD Auto, FAW Group, Geely Automobile, Great Wall, Jianghuai Automobile, Changan Group, Brilliance Automotive, Shanghai Automotive, and Haima Motor. Among the "Big Four" groups, only Dongfeng has not entered the top ten of its own brands.

Dongfeng Group's sales (referring to Dongfeng Liuzhou, Dongfeng Passenger Vehicle Company, and the sales volume of Dongfeng brand vehicles produced in Zhengzhou Daily) ranked the 12th after Zotye Automobile.

The sales of Guangqi Holding's enterprises (the sum of sales of Guangqi Changfeng and Gio brands) and the sales of Beijing Automotive Group (referred to as the sum of the sales volume of Beijing Automobile Manufacturing Factory and Beiqi Foton) ranked 16th and 17th respectively, which was less than Huatai and Lifan. , South East Automotive sales.

The fastest growing car companies

From January to August, the fastest growing sales of self-owned brand car companies were Dongfeng Group, Jiangling Motors, Huanghai Automobile, Zhongtai Automobile, and Great Wall Motor. The sales growth rate of these five companies was all above 100%.

Among the top ten car sales companies, the fastest-growing sales were Great Wall, Shanghai Automotive, and JAC, which were up 103.23%, 88.76%, and 70.04% respectively year-on-year.

Chery Regains Sales First

In the first half of this year, Chery's own brand sales volume exceeded the number one position for the first time. BYD’s sales of 289,014 narrow passenger cars surpassed Chery's 277,740. In July, although Chery’s sales exceeded BYD, sales from January to July were still inferior to BYD.

From the comparison of the monthly sales of Chery and BYD (see Figure 3), during the six months from January to July, both sales were tight, but in March, BYD sold 23,395 vehicles out of Chery. Lay its cumulative sales advantage until July.

By August, this situation had reversed, with Chery’s sales exceeding BYD's 20396 units, which resulted in Chery’s sales from BYD in January-August.

In August 2010, Chery’s sales of narrow passenger vehicles increased by 32.7% year-on-year and 45.73% from the previous quarter to 51,465, while BYD’s sales decreased by 19.1% year-on-year and decreased by 5.98% from the previous quarter to 31,069. This month, sales of BYD’s main F3 sedan and F6 all dropped year-on-year, dropping by 45.8% and 49.1% respectively.
